Published in 1986 by Loyola University Press, this thoroughly-researched volume recounts the origins, growth, and change-over time of 49 of Chicago's 77 community areas.  Along with the histories, the tours, a walking guide to the Loop and 14 driving tours for the neighborhoods.  The book contains almost 400 photographs and maps.
